Don’t Go on Holiday Without a Waterproof Camera

If you go on holiday you are probably going to get near water, whether that is a swimming pool or the sea, and if you don’t have a waterproof camera then you risk losing all your pictures if your camera gets wet! You can only use a standard camera above water, but you can actually use a waterproof one both above and below the water, so it really is the safest option. If you think they are big and ugly then get a pink waterproof digital camera instead and then it changes to being big, bright and beautiful. Don’t worry about the quality of the photos either, the latest version take just as good pictures above water as a standard one.

Flashlight DVR offers underwater hands-free recording

If you’re something of an adventurer but struggle to prove your exploits to your friends, you’ll want a digital video camera – but what do you do if most of your adventures take place under water?  Use a waterproof wrist-mounted flashlight-cum-camera, of course.
Previewed over on TechChee, the device is far from the first waterproof digital video camera to hit the market – but its innovative form factor may be enough to tip it to the top of swimmers’ and divers’ top-ten most wanted lists.
Rather than being a normal digital video camera held in a waterproof housing – requiring the user to always keep one hand occupied while the device is in use – the Flashlight DVR is designed to be mounted to the user’s wrist.  This allows for simple point-and-shoot filming – literally, you just point your hand towards whatever you want to capture – while ensuring the both hands are kept free for delicate operations.
The device records 640×480 VGA-resolution video clips in AVI format at a rate of 30MB per minute to an integral 4GB memory card – although for longer trips this can be replaced with up to 32GB of storage – and uses a built-in lithium-ion battery to record for between four to eight hours.  Recharging – and data transfer – is taken care of thanks to a USB 2.0 connection – although there’s no suggestion of how long it takes to fully charge from flat.
As the name suggests, the Flashlight DVR isn’t just a video recorder: with light often at a premium under water, the device includes a 1W LED flashlight which can be used during recording to provide extra illumination to the sensor or as a stand-along flashlight.  An in-built microphone is included in the body of the device, although it’s of more use above the waves than underwater.
Sadly for those hoping to use the device for deep-sea expeditions, the IP68-rated recorder is only good to a depth of 10m – although that should be plenty for your average, casual user.  As well as the wrist mount, the package includes a bicycle bracket for mounting to a push- or motorbike – and the waterproofing will certainly come in handy when you’re venturing out for a ride in inclement weather.
The Flashlight DVR is available immediately from USBFever for $192.99, with $2.99 shipping and handling – and if you’re not quite convinced yet, a video of the device in action is available on YouTube.

You Can Get More Than Water Protection From a Waterproof Camera Bag

    By : Stanley Hardin

We like to take pictures to be able to have something to remember the special moments in our lives. We would also often bring our cameras to new places that we go to especially when we want to try something new. Unfortunately, not all of us have electronic gadgets that can protect itself from the elements - especially water. This is why having a waterproof camera bag can come in handy wherever and whenever we need it.

A waterproof camera bag is often used for underwater and other water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, boating and the like. It is meant to protect our electronics from the probability of it getting wet and damaged. Most of these bags are featured to be airtight. It is easy to use and is featured to have clear panels to give you that quality shot that you want. Another great thing about these bags is that in case you drop it while in the water, it will float back to the surface on its own. This way, you would not need to worry much about losing your camera at the bottom of the sea, lake or river.

There are many benefits to a waterproof camera bag apart from using it near or in different bodies of water. Electronic items such as cellular phones and cameras alike are prone to being damaged from simple exposure to the elements. These bags can provide excellent protection from water, moisture as well as dust and dirt from any of your trips. This can come especially handy when you are out camping or hiking. You can be sure that your gadgets will not be at risk of falling in to mud puddles or get damaged by dirt and dust with the air. If you will be traveling to a humid area, it would also be wise to use one of these with a desiccant pack to be able to absorb damaging moisture.

Canon Waterproof Camera – What You See Ain’t What You Get

Given a variety of underwater camera choices, how do you decide which one should you get?

Canon joined the bandwagon when it first launched its underwater digital camera during the early quarter of the year. Quite similar to the claims of Olympus waterproof shooters, the one from Canon claims to be waterproof up to 10 meters, shockproof even when dropped from a height of 1.22 meters, freeze proof from up to -10 degrees and dustproof. It has a 2.5” LCD screen, 12.1 MP sensor, and 2x optical zoom.
    Water-resistant:
    Ease of Use:

So what does it got that others do not have? The brand’s established reputation perhaps guarantee the quality of the photos produced. A good range of shooting modes and special scene modes are also present. It works well with light diving and heavy snorkel and appears to be the best underwater camera without a waterproof housing. It seems that it is has the PowerShot range feature of exceptional image quality and user-friendliness.
The incredible resolution can resize images without affecting image detail. The Face Detection Technology now includes Blink Detection to avoid eyes-closed photos. Canon’s i-Contrast adjusts lighting according to what is necessary. It is equipped with the DIGIC4 mechanism for faster response and has the Motion Detection Technology to combat blur and produce only sharp and clear photos.

Indeed, what you see on the outside won’t directly tell you what it can do. More than its oddly-shaped carefree exterior, it has serious features to show off. Canon is the first to modify the Automatic mode and equipped their cameras with a new smart system. The leading camera manufacturer uses comprehensive and intelligent Auto modes that deliver extreme ease of use. The brand assures users the best image quality even in challenging shooting conditions.

Aside from the SD and MMC memory card supports, Canon’s waterproof camera can support MMCplus and HC MMCplus card formats. The usual self-timer, continuous shooting feature, flash, and white balance are of course present.

    IP Cameras

An IP camera is a network device which connects to a LAN (Local Area Network) or a WAN (Wide Area Network) an IP camera captures and streams live digital video footage over an IP Network, the footage can be viewed and managed remotely.

Because an IP camera is a device that sits on a network, the camera can be installed on to an existing network, there is no requirement to install a different infrastructure. All cameras are POE (Power Over Ethernet) so there is not a need to install separate 240v outlets. The main advantages to this technology are the reduction in time and overheads to the installation.

What makes these cameras different to traditional CCTV?

An IP camera has it’s own built in intelligence, The IP camera does not need to record back to a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) nor does it require a PC for any processing.

    Advantages of an IP camera

    * Reduces initial overheads for installation.
    * Requires less Hardware to install and maintain.
    * Reduction in the level of bandwidth requirement (everything is processed in the camera and images do not have to be transported for analysis).
    * No annual software or licensing charges (software is always supplied with the camera).
